German Roach vs. Palmetto Bug: Know the Difference

They're different species with different solutions. Misidentifying costs you months of failed treatments.

German cockroaches are small (½ inch), tan, and stay indoors — usually kitchens and bathrooms. They breed every 21 days and populations explode fast. You'll never see one during the day unless the infestation is huge.

American cockroaches (aka Palmetto bugs) are big (1.5 inches), reddish-brown, and mostly live outdoors — in mulch, palm crowns, and sewer lines. They fly in through vents and gaps. You'll usually see one at a time.

Treatment is completely different. German roaches require gel baits, IGRs and monitors. Palmetto bugs need exterior perimeter treatment and entry-point sealing. Using the wrong approach wastes months.
